August Adoration: Transfiguration

OPENING PRAYER

Lord, I am aware that I am in your loving presence; during this time of prayer help me to open my heart to your inspiration. You are great and holy and have given me everything that I have; I thank you, praise you and beg your blessing. You are compassionate; grant me all the graces that I need to grow closer to you.

WORDS TO PONDER (Reflection)

Experiencing the beauty and power of a magnificent sunset fills our hearts with wonder and joy, and the realization that we are part of this wondrous creation so much greater than ourselves. Even more so, to contemplate the love and compassion of our Savior, Jesus, and the goodness of his pierced heart fills us with gratitude, praise, and thanksgiving. Jesus loves us so much that he gave his life for us and “there is no greater love than to give one’s life for one’s friends.” (Jn 15:13)

During this hour of prayer, we are aware that we are in the presence of the risen Lord, in whom “are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col 2:3). Like Peter on the Mount of Transfiguration we proclaim, “Lord it is good that we are here”(Matt 17:4) We reflect on the love of the heart of Christ for us and respond by offering him our hearts filled with adoration, praise and thanksgiving.

QUIET TIME FOR REFLECTION/ADORATION

HYMN (Your choice)

READING (Mk 9: 3-8).

Jesus took with him, Peter, James and John, and led them up a high mountain. There his appearance was changed and before their eyes. Even his clothes shone, becoming as white as no bleach of this world could make them. Elijah and Moses appeared to them; the two were talking with Jesus.

Then Peter spoke and said to Jesus, Master, it is good that we are here; let us make three tents, one for you, one for Moses and one for Elijah.”For he did not know what to say; they were overcome with awe. But a cloud formed, covering them in a shadow, and from the cloud came this word, ”This is my Son, the Beloved; listen to him.” And suddenly, as they looked around, they no longer saw anyone except Jesus with them.
