Those of us who serve at the National Enthronement Center miss the enthusiastic presence of our recently deceased National Director Father David Reid, SS.CC. very much, although we rejoice because he is with the Lord and interceding for the ministry of the Enthronement of the Sacred heart in the Home and for all who devote themselves to this apostolate. I have the honor of being assigned to succeed David as Director of the National Center of the Enthronement. I gain confidence to promote this ministry from the assurance of David’s intercession and the prayers and encouragement of Enthronement promoters around the country.
Fr. David Reid loved and delighted in praying and reflecting on Holy Scripture and we were all enriched by his profound sharing of God’s Word with us. His prayer in his final communication on the Web site was taken from Ephesians 3:14-17. In the same way that St. Paul “went on his knees’ to implore God’s grace and blessings for the early Christians, David prayed for all of his fellow workers in the ministry of the Enthronement of the Sacred heart in the Home and continues to pray for us before the Father “from whom every family in heaven and earth has received its name.” Eph 3:14 CCB Catholic Community Bible.
David also firmly believed that in order to ‘live’ the Enthronement, participation in the Eucharist, the great expression of the love of the heart of Jesus for all humanity, was vitally important. David also stressed the importance of the Sacrament of Matrimony in the life of the family devoted to Christ. The Sacrament of Marriage was not just a wonderful event shared at the wedding ceremony, but the conferral of bountiful graces and blessings present all the days of a couples married life, providing strength and courage to enrich the union of love and sharing professed at the marriage ceremony. The importance of the social teaching of the Catholic Church was also an important element in family life as well as in the life of the Church for Fr. David. His conviction of God’s love for every single human enabled him to share the love of his own heart with all of his brothers and sisters, regardless of race, religion or any of the distinctive groups of brothers and sisters that our society enumerates today. The parable of Lazarus, covered with sores, at the door of rich man, with only dogs to offer some measure of relief, was one of the teachings of Jesus that made David very conscious of the need of families to be aware of the needs of the poor, the underprivileged, the homeless, the sick, the elderly and all the other beloved sisters and brothers of Jesus. I pray that everyone called to the apostolate of the Enthronement of the Sacred Heart in the Home will be blessed with the gifts of love and concern that Fr. David Reid learned from the heart of Christ.
