November Adoration: Christ, King of the Universe

ree

The kingship of Jesus responds to God's plan for man. Jesus is king because he feeds the poor, heals the sick, casts out demons, establishes justice and gives himself to the end for the sake of the Kingdom; he practices service and rejects violence. He is king of truth and Lord of the community The reign of God is to defend and protect with justice the weak, the poor and the marginalized. It is not a purely interior reign; it is also social. It provokes resistance, rejection, and even crucifixion. In its final stage, it is humanity redeemed.

- O God, come to my assistance.

- Lord, make haste to help me.

- Glory be to the Father...

- As it was in the beginning...

Close is the Lord, close to my people, close to the one who conquers with love.

Near is the Lord, he is the pilgrim who shares my pain.

Jesus is the Lord, you know him, he is the life, he is the truth.

Jesus is the Lord, you know him, he is the way of freedom.

Jesus is the Lord, forget not his voice, he is the Redeemer of our people.

Psalm 72

Jesus fulfills all desires in the search for a just king, defender of the humble and broken.

O God, give your judgment to the king;

your justice to the king’s son;

That he may govern your people with justice,

your oppressed with right judgment,

That the mountains may yield peace for the people,

and the hills, justice

That he may defend the oppressed among the people,

save the children of the poor and crush the oppressor.

He shall endure like the sun, and the moon,

through all generations.

May he be like rain coming down upon the fields,

like showers watering the earth,

That abundance may flourish in his days,

great bounty, till the moon be no more.

May he rule from sea to sea,

from the river to the ends of the earth.

May his foes kneel before him,

his enemies lick the dust.

May all bow before him,

all nations serve him.

For he rescues the poor when they cry out,

the oppressed who have no one to help.

He shows pity to the needy and the poor

and saves the lives of the poor.

From extortion and violence he redeems them,

for precious is their blood in his sight.

May his name be forever;

as long as the sun, may his name endure.

Blessed be his glorious name forever;

may he fill all the earth with his glory.

Reading

For God's Word, by whom all things were made, was Himself made flesh so that as perfect man He might save all people and sum up all things in Himself. The Lord is the goal of human history, the focal point of the longings of history and of civilization, the center of the human race, the joy of every heart and the answer to all its yearnings. (GS. 45)

Our Father

Prayer

God, our Father, grant that we, followers of your Son, may seek not to save ourselves but to save the world. Through Christ, Our Lord. Amen.
