Adoration for May: Holy Spirit

Updated: May 8

Introduction:

Without the Holy Spirit God is far away.

Christ stays in the past,

The Gospel is simply an organization,

Authority is a matter of propaganda,

The Liturgy is no more than an evolution,

Christian loving a slave mentality.

But in the Holy Spirit

The cosmos is resurrected and grows with the

birth pangs of the kingdom.

The Risen Christ is there,

The Gospel is the power of life,

The Church shows forth the life of the Trinity,

Authority is a liberating service,

Pentecost is Mission,

The Liturgy is both memorial and anticipation,

Human action is deified. (St. Ignatius of Antioch)

- O God, come to my aid

 - Lord, make haste to help me

- Glory be to the Father...

- As it was in the beginning... Alleluia.

Hymn.

The world is radiant with joy!

The face of the earth is renewed!

Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Spirit!

This is the hour when the Spirit breaks into the earth with a strong rushing wind, and a flaming tongue of fire purifies, renews, enkindles, and rejoices the heart of the world.

This is the strength that makes the Church a testimony in the world and raises up witnesses among the people to speak with words of conviction.

This is a deep flame that searches and illumines the hearts of men and women restoring faith with God’s good news and love and keeps hope awake until the Lord returns.

Silence for adoration

Psalm 104.

God's creative power enables the person who prays to recognize his or her own limitations and death. Without God's Spirit—encouragement—nothing can continue to exist. A person's response can only be admiration, praise, and thanksgiving.

Bless the LORD, my soul!

LORD, my God, you are great indeed!

You are clothed with majesty and splendor,

robed in light as with a cloak.

You spread out the heavens like a tent;

setting the beams of your chambers upon the waters.

You make the clouds your chariot;

traveling on the wings of the wind.

You make the winds your messengers;

flaming fire, your ministers.

You fixed the earth on its foundation,

so it can never be shaken.

The deeps covered it like a garment;

above the mountains stood the waters.

At your rebuke they took flight;

at the sound of your thunder they fled.

They rushed up the mountains, down the valleys

to the place you had fixed for them.

You set a limit they cannot pass;

never again will they cover the earth.

You made springs flow in wadies

that wind among the mountains.

They give drink to every beast of the field;

here wild asses quench their thirst.

Beside them the birds of heaven nest;

among the branches they sing.

Silence to Meditate.

Reread the psalm, repeating "for his love endures forever"; in this way you will realize that creation is not only the work of God's power, but above all, of his love.

Reading.

We have the Holy Spirit within us, in our heart; we can listen to him, we can listen to him. If we listen to the Holy Spirit, he teaches us this way of wisdom, he endows us with wisdom, which is seeing with God’s eyes, hearing with God’s ears, loving with God’s heart, directing things with God’s judgement. This is the wisdom the Holy Spirit endows us with, and we can all have it. We only have to ask it of the Holy Spirit.

Pope Francis

Silence for reflection.

How and when do I listen to the Holy Spirit? What does he teach me.

Petitions.

-Come Holy Spirit, come fill my heart with your heavenly love.

-Holy Spirit, enlighten my mind so that I may know the Truth, live the Truth, and be willing to die for the Truth.

-Come Holy Spirit, come in the dark and lonely moments of my life, come to console me and comfort me.

-Add your own petitions ….

Our Father.

Prayer.

Father of light, from whom every good gift comes,

send your Spirit into our lives with the power of a mighty wind,

and by the flame of your wisdom open the horizons of our minds.

Loosen our tongues to sing your praise in words beyond the power of speech,

for without your Spirit, we could never raise our voices in words of peace

or announce the truth that Jesus is Lord

Who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit.
