November Adoration: Jesus Christ, King of Love

Reflection.

“This is the King of the Jews,” proclaimed the inscription placed above the cross. What appeared to be a statement of mockery became, in truth, a proclamation of the deepest mystery of Christ's kingship. Jesus reigns not from a throne of earthly splendor, but from the wood of the cross. His crown is woven of thorns, his scepter is self-giving love, and his royal authority is revealed in the complete emptying of himself for the sake of the world.

From the cross, Christ exercises a kingship unlike any the world has ever known. He does not conquer through force, domination, or fear. Instead, he reigns through humility, mercy, and sacrificial love. In surrendering himself to death for the salvation of humankind, he reveals that true greatness is found in service and that authentic power is expressed through love that holds nothing back.

From the cross, the saving presence of God shines forth into the darkness of the world. There Christ opens for humanity the way of salvation, inviting every person into the life of divine love. His outstretched arms embrace the whole human family, and his pierced heart remains an inexhaustible source of mercy. As King, he continues to reign from the cross and from the Eucharist, drawing all people to himself and leading them into the fullness of life in the Father.

  • O God, come to my assistance.

  • O Lord, make haste to help me.

  • Glory to the Father...

  • As it was in the beginning...

Hymn.

Servant of Yahweh, witness and one who is sent.

Servant of Yahweh, wounded and humbled.

Servant of Yahweh, brother to every brother and sister.

Servant of Yahweh, wounded in feet and hands.

You are my servant; I have chosen you.

You are my servant; you are going to die.

Love, God is love,

God is love, He is love,

and out of love He chose me.

Love, God is love,

God is love,

and out of love He sent me.

Silence for adoration.

Psalm Prayer based on Psalm 71.

I give you thanks, Lord, because in your Son, Jesus Christ, King of kings and Lord of lords, you have inaugurated the time of the New Covenant.

He has brought peace and justice, becoming the defender of the poor and the marginalized.

He is God among humanity, before whom every knee bends and whose name is praised forever.

I bless you, Lord, because you have worked wonders among us and filled the whole earth with your glory.

We ask you for strength during this time awaiting your definitive and manifest revelation, so that, together with your Son, we may cooperate in the struggle to make this earth your own home, the place of your reign.

Silence for meditation.

Reading.

"Saint Francis understood that Christian poverty is not an ascetic practice, a deprivation, but rather a mysticism, a way of becoming like God and resembling Him. God is the total emptying of self, a gaze turned toward the other. What is proper to God is not being a monarch who dominates the universe. Rather, He is the One who carries the other within Himself, who is not alone, who is total self-giving, who is pure gift. And if He has nothing to lose, it is because from all eternity He has given away everything in that absolute, perfect, and infinite self-offering that He is." (Maurice Zundel)

Silence for reflection.

Intercessions.

  • For the Church, that it may strip itself of all power and alliances and become strong through the poverty of the cross...

  • For religious orders and congregations, that they may renew their life according to the poverty and simplicity of their founders...

  • For Christians, that they may know how to share their goods generously with the poor of this world...

  • Add your own intentions...

Our Father.

Closing Prayer.

O Christ, whom the Father established as Lord of Life through your obedience unto death, make us your faithful followers.

You who live and reign forever and ever. Amen.
