Introduction.
Devotion to Mary can never be viewed as a separate, autonomous, or isolated element within Christian spirituality, nor can it overlook its ultimate purpose: “To glorify God and to commit Christians to a life in accordance with his will” (Paul VI). It must always be oriented toward the glory of God and the fulfillment of His will, manifested in Jesus: the proclamation and building of the Kingdom of God. She herself points this out to us in the Gospel: “Do whatever He tells you” (Jn 2:5).
- O God, come to my aid.
- Lord, make haste to help me.
- Glory be to the Father...
- As it was in the beginning...
Hymn.
Mother of all humankind, teach us to say: Amen.
When night falls and faith grows dim...
When pain overwhelms us and hope no longer shines...
When light appears and we feel happy...
When anguish surrounds us and we don’t know where to go...
Silence for adoration.
From Psalm 125.
Those who trust in the Lord are like Mount Zion:
it does not tremble; it stands firm forever.
The one who trusts in you, Lord,
is like a house built on rock,
firm as a hill that stands alone,
and nothing and no one can make it waver.
The security of those who trust comes only from you, Lord;
for you surround them with your strong arms
and keep them standing firm,
so that their hands do not reach out to do evil
nor their steps stray onto wrong paths.
You alone, Lord, do this.
Silence for meditation.
Reading.
“Joining our voices to that of the anonymous woman in the Gospel, we Christians, turned toward Jesus, glorify his Mother, exclaiming: ‘Blessed is the womb that bore you and the breasts that nursed you” (Lk 11:27), and we hear the Master’s reply: “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it” (Lk 11:28). These words sound like an admonition to live according to the commandments and echo other calls of Jesus: “Not everyone who says to me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ will enter the kingdom of heaven, but only the one who does the will of my Father in heaven” (Mt 7:21) and “You are my friends if you do what I command you.” (Jn 15:14) (Paul VI)
Silence for reflection.
Does your devotion to Mary commit you to follow Jesus?
Petitions.
- Mary, mother of Jesus, lead us to Jesus.
- Mary, mother of Jesus, show us Jesus,
- Mary, mother of Jesus, tell us about Jesus.
- Mary, mother of Jesus, speak to Jesus about us.
- Mary, mother of Jesus, help us to follow Jesus.
- Mary, mother of Jesus, commit us to Jesus.
Our Father.
